Dirleton Castle Courtyard
The main tower of Dirleton Castle was where the lord and his family lived. Behind the main tower, in this courtyard, there were many other buildings - stables, granaries, servants' quarters, cookhouses and workshops. Most of these were built of timber, and were perishable, which is why you see no trace of them today. What remains are the outlines of their foundations, like blueprints preserved in stone.
