Tombstone From Greyfriars Churchyard

There are many tombstones in Greyfriars Churchyard, which lies in the middle of Edinburgh, just blocks from the Royal Mile. Some are very elaborate, like this one that commemorates the life and death of a 16th century gentleman. Note the painted infant figure. Does it represent Birth or Youth? Notice also the skull - surely that is Death. For some excellent period detail, check out that cameo of a bearded man in an Elizabethan ruff to the left of the skull.
