The Royal Mile
Here is a view of the Royal Mile, looking up towards Edinburgh Castle. Notice the antiquated black cab approaching us. Veddy British, don't you think? Somewhere to the right is a pub called The Ensign, where my wife and I enjoyed several drams of single malt whiskey - the first, in fact, that either of us had ever tasted. The church in the center of the picture is no longer a church. Either that, or religious worship in Scotland has changed more radically than I would have guessed. I peeked inside this church after dark as tourists were queuing up for the Royal Tattoo, and glimpsed flashing blue laser lights. I got the impression that it was now either a dance club or a video arcade.
