Jedburgh Abbey - Church And Graveyard
Jedburgh Abbey was never an isolated monastery or a rarefied center for contemplation. In addition to founding the wool-based economy of The Borders, the priors of Jedburgh Abbey held church services for the local populace, buried their dead, and took part in the worldly affairs of the nation. Alexander III married his second wife at Jedburgh Abbey, but unfortunately did not live long enough to produce a male heir.
