Name: George Arundel Hill
Location: In forest beside 1781 English Line (C1/L24)
Description: These 200 hundred acres patented to George Arundel Hill in 1835. He was born in County Limerick, Ireland in 1796 and settled in Dummer Township where he died in 1861. Hill was commissioned Ensign in 1815 in the 27th Inniskilling Regiment of Foot, during the Napoleonic War. In 1841, he was appointed Warden of the District of Colborne by the government. He also served as elected warden for four successive years. Hill was the author of "A Guide for Emigrants from the British Shores to the Woods of Canada" as well as numerous other tracts, poems and prose for the Cobourg Star. Between 1851-61 he was clerk of the Townships of Dummer and Burleigh (Plaques of Ontario). This cemetery is the final resting place of George Arundel Hill, his wife and daughter Hannah. This cemetery is mentioned in the Peterborough County Land Records in 1889.

George Arundel HILL (1796 ­1861) was the son of Arundel Hill and Catherine Bold, of Limerick, Ireland. As a very young man he served under the Duke of Wellington at Waterloo, being an officer of the 2nd Battalion, 65th Regiment.
Emigrating to Canada in 1831, he was the author of "A Guide for Emigrants from the British Shores to the Woods of Canada." He was also an author of numerous tracts, poems and prose for the Coborg Star. He was a clerk and treasurer for the township of Dummer for several years, and the first Warden of the United Counties of Victoria and Peterborough. From 1851-61 he was clerk of the Townships of Dummer and Burleigh. For seven years he was superintendent of schools.
His wife was Hanna, and their children were Arundel, Emily, Bold, Elizabeth, Hanna, Kate and Hopkins.
