5. Henriette Boucher(3) was born in 1807. She died on 18 Jan 1845 in Havre Boucher. Children were:

child2 i. Fidele Fougere.

My Great- Great-Great Grandfather

8. Marcel (Marshall) Fougere was born on 9 Sep 1770 in Petit Degrat. He owned 500 acres by crown grant in 1809 in the Frankville area.(4) As a point of reference, Marcel Fougere was granted 100 acres which includes the area where Andrew Fougere lives today and extending back through the lands that were owned by Edward (Ned) Fougere and actually extending back almost all the way to the railroad tracks to the area where Tom Fougere lives. Charles' land was to the left of Marcel's. He died after 1833.

Charles was married to Anne-Charlotte Richard about 1792 in Havre Boucher.

9. Anne-Charlotte Richard was born on 10 Mar 1767. Children were:

child4 i. Lamand Fougere.

My Great-Great-Great-Great Grandfather

16. Joseph Fougere (5) was born on 25 Apr 1720. He appeared on the census in 1752 in Port Toulouse, Ile Royale (St. Peter's, Cape Breton). (4)

"Joseph Fougere, coaster, native of Port Royal, aged 36 years; married to Marguerite Coste, native of Port Toulouse, aged 32 years. They are in the colony 28 years. They have one child, Modeste Fougere, aged 4 years. They have Marie Madeleine, aged 12 years, native of Acadia, as a domestic. They have one ox, one cow, hone heifer, two geese, four fowls and a share in a vessel. The dwelling in which he is settled was sold to him by Claude Dugas." He appeared on the census in 1771 in Petit Degrat. (4) "

 While Joseph Fougere and Marguerite Coste had only once child at the time of LaRoque's census, they went on to have eleven more children. Joseph and his family were living in Petit de Grat at the time of a census taken by the British government in 1771. The fortress at Louisbourg fell to the British in 1758, but it does not appear that the Fougeres were involved in the hostilities. However, the French settlers at Port Toulouse did lose Louisbourg as a commercial trading center. The settlers had been able to exchange dried fish, firewood and props at Louisbourg for food and clothing. After the fall of Louisbourg, the Jersey Island traders moved into the Ile Madame area to fill the void left by the collapse of Louisbourg."

He owned lot of land on 15 Feb 1790 in Arachat, Nova Scotia.(6) From Ron Fraser;

"Joseph was, in fact years old at the time of LaRoque's census because the record of his baptism has survived. It is interesting to note that Joseph purchased his dwelling from Claude Dugas. Claude Dugas married Joseph's step mother, Madeline, in 1750. Joseph's father, Jean, died around 1744. He was married to Marguerite Coste in 1747."

17. Marguerite Coste. From Ron Fraser..info is also apparently in book by Donald and Marg MacKinnan, "Our Acadian Heritage"

"Joseph's wife, Marguerite Coste, was one-quarter Indian. Marguerite's mother, Francoise Petitpas, was one-half Indian and Marguerite's grandmother, Marie Therese, was a full blooded Mic Mac Indian (Incorrect spelling of Mic Mac...more like M'ic Macq.." which mean's friendly human..my note)
who married Claude Petitpas, the son of the village clerk at Port Royal."

 Children were:

child i. Modeste Fougere was born about 1748 in Port Toulouse, Ile Royale (St. Peter's, Cape Breton).
child ii. Joseph Fougere was born about 1750 in Port Toulouse, Ile Royale (St. Peter's, Cape Breton). He died before 1752. He appeared on the census in 1791 in Havre Boucher area. The "Census of Nova Scotia Poll Taxes" in 1791 for the Tracadie and Havre Boucher area reveals the following Fougeres in the Havre Boucher area:

Name Property Description Shillings Pence

Joseph Fougere Shallop 5 0
John Fougere 1 0
James Fougere Shallop 1 0
Charles Fougere 5 0
Marcel Fougere

child iii. Jean (John) Baptiste Fougere was born about 1753 in Petit Degrat. He died about 1762. He owned 200 acres of land from George III, King of England in 1787 in Barrio Beach area of East Tracadie, Nova Scotia, Canada. He died in 1819. (4)

In his 'Third Generation' of Fougere Genealogy Ron writes;

"John Fougere died in 1819, without leaving any children. The other three brothers, Jacques, Charles, and Marcel, all had families and these three brothers are the ancestors of all the Fougeres in Havre Boucher, as well as most of the Fraziers who settled in Braintree, Massachusetts, and the surrounding area"

So I'm not sure, without checking with Ron, when John died.

64. Jean Fougere . A lot of info rec'd from Ron Fraser came from
;The Dictionnaire généalogique des familles acadiennes
is a well documented work on Acadian genealogy by Stephen A White that is firmly grounded upon the primary sources of information, while containing references to the best secondary sources. The first part of the Dictionnaire includes all the information available concerning those families who came into being before 1715. This information comes from the registers of more than 320 parishes, from the registries of more than 125 notaries, and from some 130 censuses or other lists of the residents of, and subsequently the exiles from, Acadia. Those who are interested in the subject will find in the Dictionnaire more than 700 notes that explain the reasoning that supports the author's conclusions.
