STONE.
Herald, 5th August 1875.
Another landmark has been removed by the hand of death. From Melbourne we have intelligence of the death of one of our earliest colonists, Mr Robert Stone, the father of Mr C J Stone of this city, and Mr R Stone of Thames. It was only a few days back we had to chronicle the sudden death of another member of the family in the person of Mr William Stone (CJ's son) and singularly enough on the very same day that he passed away -- the 24th day of July, his grandfather died also. Mr Robert Stone was in his 89th year at the time of his decease. He was a resident of Parnell in the year 1847, having been one of the first European settlers in that neighbourhood. Since 1848 he resided for some time in Latrobe Street, Melbourne, but finally removed to Brighton to be near many members of his family who reside there. Mr Robert Stone was one of the earliest colonists in Melbourne, going there in 1839, and his portrait, with that of Mr C J Stone, appears in Mr Chuck's portraits of old colonists published in Melbourne in 1870.

Wellington Paper. 16th July 1946.
Wellington, this day.
A verdict that Charles Alfred Strong murdered his wife, Agnes Winifred Strong, by cutting her throat and then committed suicide by
hanging. was returned by the coroner at an inquest into their deaths.
Evidence was given by relatives of the deceased that Mrs Strong was 70 years of age and her husband 69. The women had heart trouble
and was a nervous wreck, and her husband found it difficult to get on with her.
Medical and police evidence showed that Mrs Strong's body was found in bed with the throat cut, and the husband's body was found
hanging in the hall of their home at Lower Hutt. In both cases death had apparently taken place three or four days before discovery. There was no sign of a struggle.
