James Redding , late 40th and 64th Regiments, died at the Knox Home, Auckland and was buried with Military Honours at the Waikaraka Cemetery, Onehunga. Served with the 40th Regiment during the Maori Wars and was present at the battles of Rangiriri, Maungapeka and Orakau. Awarded New Zealand War Medal. He was a resident of the Veterans' Home since October 1912.

In his presence is fullness of joy. A service will be held at Elim, 168 Victoria Ave, Remuera at 1pm Thursday, prior to a private Cremation. Cut flowers only, by request. A service will be held at St Paul's Methodist Church Northcote at 2.pm today (Wednesday) Funeral then leaving for Glenfield Lawn Cemetery. All communications to 21 Clarence Street Northcote.

An old resident of Auckland, Mr Alexander S Russell of Roseleaf, Pukenui Road, One Tree Hill, passed away on Thursday. The deceased, who was 76 years of age, was a native of Glasgow and arrived in Auckland in 1859 by the ship "Excelsior". He served in the Maori war and started business with the firm of J Gilfillan and Company. Later he was with the Kauri Timber Company and then entered the Insurance business, being subsequently appointed Manager of the Auckland branch of the South British Company, a position which he held until he retired. He was a prominent member of the Masonic Lodge.
