Mrs Vincent Marshall, died of Influenza at Ohaupo on Wednesday. She was the only daughter of the late Primate of New Zealand, Bishop Cowie. Her eldest brother is the Archdeacon of the Waikato, her second brother the Vicar of Paeroa and the youngest is a Missioner at Auckland of the Church of England Mission to Seamen. The deceased leaves a husband and four young children.

MARTIN.

A very old and fine type of Colonist, Mr John Martin died in the Kumara Hospital last week. The deceased, two days before his death, celebrated his 90th birthday. He was well known throughout the district and was a native of London, England and had been 55 years in New Zealand. His wife predeceased him by about six years.

MARTIN William Hurst.
An old identity of Auckland, Mr William Hurst Martin, died on Saturday at his residence "Martinborough" Mount Albert, where he had resided for half a century. Accompanied by his wife Mr Martin arrived in Auckland by the sailing ship "Ida Zeigler", in 1863. Soon afterwards he went with the forces to Rangiriri, where he took part in the operations against the Maoris. On the cesstation of hostilities, he engaged in farming, stock breeding and stock dealing. He also took part in the rush to the Thames Gold fields when the great "boom" took place.

Mr W B Maxwell, war veteran, died at Te Aroha on Tuesday. Born England on 23rd of June 1836,. He joined the Royal Navy and served on the HMS Majestic, in the China war on Shannon and in the Indian Mutiny in Peel's Naval Brigade. He came to New Zealand and served with Captain Stapp and Major Atkinson at Patea and other places. Although nearly 80 years old, he volunteered for active service at the outbreak of war and was advised he would be called upon when necessity demanded. Awarded 3 medals for the Crimean; 1 Indian mutiny; 2 Maori War; 3 Humane Society.

On Monday afternoon, Henry Mitchell, a very old resident of the Thermal district, died at Ohinemutu, in his 81st year. He came to Taupo in 1868 as a Surveyor and was Native land Purchase Commissioner and negotiated the purchase of all the blocks acquired from the Arawas. He settled in Rotorua over 40 years ago.
