He was a Master Mariner, sailing out of New York, he arrived in Melbourne 1857, in the ship, "Kitty Simpson", after arrived in New Zealand in 1863 in the ship "Caduses. He served during Maori War with the 1st Waikato's, and with the Militia, until disbanded in 1867. He died at Tauranga on the 19th of July 1899, aged 75 years. No other details.

The body of Mr Herbert Barton Lynch. a Public Works employee was found in a clump of gorse at Mokau on Monday. A rifle was lying across the body. Mr Lynch was aged about 35 years, and had been suffering ill health.
