March 16th, 1911, Fatality,
George Davidson of Mokau, a farmhand, employed at Awakino, was riding home to the township, on Thursday, in the company with a teamster, driving a 3 horse team which bolted. Davidson galloped to head them, and having done so dismounted, close by a telegraph pole. The bolting team swerved and Pinned Davidson between the dray and the pole and he was killed. Death was instantaneous. The deceased had been well and favourably known in the district for many years. No buriel details.

Advice has been received at Auckland, of the death at sea of Captain G T Deith, who was for many years in the Federal Line and was in command of a number of the Companies Steamers. Captain Deith retired from the sea about 2 years ago and recently visited Auckland on a holiday. He was returning to England on the liner "Nestor" and his death took place on March 22nd last, 5 days before the vessel reached Durbin. Nearly all Captain Deith's sea career was spent in the Federal Line, which he joined as a junior officer. In the Company's Steamers he made many voyages to NZ and Australia, his last command being the "Cumberland"

DILLON. Herald, 13th September 1940, Obituary. A resident of the Waikato for 75 years. Mrs Mary Dillon, aged 100 years, of Nixen Street Hamilton, died today. Mrs Dillon was born in County Mayo, Ireland, and went to America as a child of 10 years, living in New York for 8 years, she returned to Ireland, where she married Mr Michael Dillon, and at the age of 25, she and her husband came to New Zealand. They settled at Pirongia, but later moved to Cambridge. For the last 32 years Mrs Dillon had lived in Hamilton. She has clear recollections of the famines which swept Ireland, when she was a child, of the celebrations which marked the laying of the Atlantic Cable on August 5th 1858, and of the assassination of President Lincoln in 1865. During her early days in New Zealand, raids by marauding Maoris were not an infrequent occurrence. Mr Dillon died at Cambridge in 1908. Mrs Dillon is survived by 2 daughters.

Marmaduke Dixon was the most influential man in the early days of the district. He was born in Lincolnshire, went to sea, becoming a Master Mariner. He then took up License for the Eyrewell Run in 1853. Chairman of the first School Committee and of the first West Eyreton Road Board, member of the Provincial Council. His wife was Eliza Agnes Wood.
