The Fulgham/Fulghum family members descended from Captain Anthony Fulgham of the Isle of Wight County, Virginia. He came to the colonies sometime prior to 1640. Even though it hasn't been proven, it is believed that the Fulgham/Fulghum family lines were part of the Foljambe family of England. The Foljambe family is a noble family still holding the titles of the Earl of Liverpool, Baron Hawkesbury, Viscount Hawkesbury and Lord of the Manor at Osbernton Hall. There were many knighted members of this family, tracing their lineage to Sir Godfrey de Foleschamp. Sir Godfrey was allied with the Duke of Normandy and fought with him in his army at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Sir Godfrey later married the daughter of Uchtred, Saxon Lord of Elton. The family can further trace its' lineage to Ragnar Lodbrok, Viking King of Lethera. In 845, six hundred Viking ships landed in Hamburg where the city of destroyed. Lodbrok later took 120 Viking ships up the mouth of the Seine River and sacked Paris. Ragnar had one hundred eleven captives hanged or axed on an island in the Seine, in full view of the Franks who watched from the river bank. A few years later, King Elle of Northumbria had Ragnar killed by having him thrown into a pit of poisonous snakes. Ragnar's sons later killed King Elle.
