Photos & transcribed obits from 1886 Rice Family Bible (aka Christian Andres Bible)

Added to site: Jan. 1, 2006

This bible contains handwritten notes (I think in German) on a blank page near the middle which makes me believe that person to be the original owner. I think that name may be Christian Andres. Since I am unsure of that name, I have labeled this one the Rice Family Bible (aka Christian Andres Bible) because of the family names on the paper found inside. It is a small, hard cover, black leather bible, appx 5x7 & about 2" thick. If anyone could tell me what the names are that are written in Bible or what it says, I'd love to hear from you!

I believe this is the original Bible of Christian Andres. There were several Christian Andres in the census for the same time era so, I have provided census images for those listed in Pennsylvania since I believe the Andrew Rice family may have been from Pennsylvania. Other states I'd found the name Christian Andres listed in a census were, New York (1870 & 1900), Ohio (1860), Texas (1900) and Wisconsin (1870). To see the PA census images for Christian Andres, CLICK HERE. I think I have found a match for Andrew J. Rice in the Crawford County, Pennsylvania Census and have posted those census images hoping they will give enough clues to help determine kinship for someone. To see the census images for Andrew, CLICK HERE I have no way of knowing if this is the same Christian Andres and Andrew J. Rice mentioned in the Bible but am supplying the census images to help anyone who may think they tie into the family. If you are a descendant of Christian Andres or Andrew J. Rice ... PLEASE contact me!
