The following is a transcription of the will of John Freeman, recorded in Culpeper Co, VA. This Will was copied from a book entitled "Culpeper County Will Book D". This will was recorded on pages 100 and 101 of the book and on pages 296 and 297, of Will Book D.
PERSUANT to an Order of Culpeper Court the Subscribers being first sworn have proceeded to appraise the Estate of JOHN FREEMAN decd as follows; Viz .... items listed and valued but not totalled ... which inventory lists seven negroes with an appraisal of 470 pounds ... The above is a true statement given under our hand this 11 day of December 1800..... ELISHA MATHIS, JOHN FLETCHER, JOHN SPILMAN
At a Court held for Culpeper County the 15th day of December 1800
This inventory of the Estate of John Freeman decd was returned into Court and ordered to be recorded.
I JOHN FREEMAN of Culpeper County and State of Virginia being in a low state of health but of perfect since and memory calling to mind the uncertainty of human life and wishing to settle my temporal affairs do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner following.
1st. I give to my Daughter ELIZABETH MILLER the wife of FRANCIS MILLER one hundred and ten pounds.
2nd. I give to my son JOHN FREEMAN twenty pound he having had part of my Estate before.
3rd. I give my Son HARRIS FREEMAN one hundred and five pound cash.
4th. I give my Son WILLIAM FREEMAN one hundred and five pound cash and one feather bed and furniture.
5. I lend to my beloved Wife SARAH FREEMAN all the balance of my Estate during her life and after her Death it is my will and desire that whatever part of my Estate is remaining to be equally divided among my several children namely Elizabeth Miller, John Freeman, Harris Freeman, GERARD FREEMAN, William Freeman and JULANOR READ, the Wife of SAMUEL READ. Lastly I do appoint my loving wife Sarah Freeman Executrix and my Son Harris Freeman Executor to this my last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 19th day of March 1800.

At a Court held for Culpeper County the 15th day of September 1800
This last Will and Testament of John Freeman decd was exhibited to the Court and proved by the oath of John Wigginton one of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be certified.
At a Court continued and held for said County the 21st of October 1800.
This will was again exhibited to the Court and further proved by the Oath of Henry Hofman Junr. another witness thereto and ordered to be recorded and on the motion of Harris Freeman the Executor therein named Certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form he having made oath thereto and given bond and security according to Law. Liberty being reserved for the Executrix therein named to join in the probate when she may think fit.
