Rose,published in 1914 EDWIN WILLANDER (1883) Edwin Willander is a farmer and stockraiser of Tyro township., He has spent all except the first four years of his life in Yellow Medicine county and has prospered exceedingly. He is the owner of the southwest quarter of section 24 and the southeast quarter of section 23. Mr. Willander engages in stock raising extensively and has nothing but thoroughbreds. His breeds are Shorthorn cattle, Duroc-Jersey hogs, White Holland turkeys, White Leghorn and Blue Andalusian chickens and bees. The subject of this review was born in Nicollet county, Minnesota, April 22, 1879. His father is N. M. Willander, a native of Sweden and a resident of Tyro township. His mother was Christina (Johnson) Willander, who was born in Sweden February 22, 1841, and died in Yellow Medicine county December 18, 1912. The children of the family are Matthies, Leonard, Oscar, William A., Jennie and Annie, who live at home; Mrs. C. G. Anderson, of Winthrop, Minnesota; Mrs. John A Lindall, of Swede Prairie township; Edwin, of this sketch; and Mrs. Swen Friberg, of Clarkfield. When Edwin was four year old, in 1883, he accompanied the family to Yellow Medicine county. For four years the family home was on section 2, Swede Prairie, and then the home was made in Tyro. Edwin was educated in the school of district No. 29, and until 1902 he lived with his parents. Then he bought his half section farm in Tyro, improved the place, and has made his home there since. He is a member of the Swedish Lutheran church of Tyro township. Clara Johnson, born in Swede Prairie township March 18, 1882, became the wife of Mr. Willander February 18, 1903, the ceremony being performed in Tyro. She is a daughter of J. G. and Lena (Peterson) Johnson, natives of Sweden and now residents of Swede Prairie township. Mr. and Mrs. Willander have the following children: Harry Reynold, born November 26, 1903; Josie Cecilia, born August 16, 1905; Vira Julia, born September 14, 1906; Clarence Wallace, born September 23, 1907; Reuben Orand, born March 2, 1909; Ruth Evelyn, born November 2, 1910; and Edith Lillian, born April 3, 1912.
