Rose,published in 1914 PETER WEST (1888) Peter West is the proprietor of the southwest quarter of section 18, Normania township, which he has farmed for the past quarter of a century. Peter West was born in Sweden July 21, 1858, a son of Jonas and Johanna (Abrahamson) Swenson. The former still lives in the old country; the latter died there in 1890. Peter lived in Sweden until twenty-three years of age a came to America in 1881. He worked in the railroad yards at St. Paul two years and thereafter was employed with grading crews on railroads until 1888. That year he came to Yellow Medicine county and bought eighty acres of his Normania farm. Later he added to his holdings by the purchase of the other eighty acres of the quarter. The marriage of Mr. West to Annie Anderson occurred in April, 1888. She was born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, March 14, 1863, a daughter of Tobias and Anlog Anderson, who were born in Norway. Mrs. West died in March 1899. The second marriage of Mr. West occurred in March, 1900, when he wedded Selma Olson. She was born in Norway in 1868, a daughter of Halvor and Martha (Nelson) Olson. The following named five children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. West: Martha, born June 16, 1902; Alfred, born September 7, 1903; Emil, born November 30, 1904; William, born January 8, 1906; and Oscar, born May 25, 1907.
