GUSTAV F. SCHLENNER (1885)

Gustav F. Schlenner has a finely improved farm consisting of the northeast
quarter of section 2, Wood Lake township.  He was born in Brandenburg
Province, Germany, March 14, 1868, a son of John and Augusta (Barker)
Schlenner.  The father died in Wood Lake township in 1899, and the mother
died in 1904.

When Gustav Schlenner was one year of age, in 1869, the family came to the
United States and located in Dodge county, Wisconsin.  After a residence of
five years at that point, they moved to Olmsted county, Minnesota, where
they lived another five years.  The next home was in Murray county,
Minnesota, where they engaged in farming five or six years until 1885.

During these years Gustav was working on the farm and getting his education,
attending the country schools several years and also securing two years of
village schooling.   In 1885 he came with the family to Yellow Medicine
county.  The father bought the northeast quarter of section 2, Wood Lake
township, the farm that has ever since been the Schlenner home.  Gustav
worked several years with his father, and in 1890 he took charge of the
farm.  Since the latter date he has continuously occupied the place, and he
has made several improvements.  He raises quite a lot of stock.

Mr. Schlenner is a member of the German Lutheran church of Wood Lake.  For
nine years he was a director of school district No. 13.

He was married December 18, 1890, in Wood Lake township, to Alvina Frase,
who was born in Germany February 14, 1870, and came to the United States
when a child.  She is the daughter of Michael and Charlotte Frase; her
father is dead.  Mr. and Mrs. Schlenner have four children, as follows:
Alice, born March 7, 1892; Selma A., born February 23, 1894; Minnie L., born
October 20, 1896, and Edwin R., born August 6, 1899.
