FRED W. OELSCHLAGER (1908)

Fred W. Oelschlager, proprietor of the White Swan Buffet at Granite Falls,
was born in Germany July 12, 1874.  In 1885 he came to the United States and
first made settlement in Owatonna, Minnesota, where he lived five years.
Then for about two years he traveled over the country, after which he
located at Waseca, Minnesota, and learned the printer's trade.  There he
lived until 1896, when he moved to Morton, Renville county, Minnesota, where
his father owned a farm, which Fred managed for two years.

At that time Mr. Oelschlager went to Danube, Minnesota, where he engaged in
the saloon business, conducting a saloon there two and a half years.
Disposing of his interests at Danube, he went to Renville, Minnesota, where
for a little over six years he was engaged in the saloon business.  In 1908
Mr. Oelschlager moved to Granite Falls and bought the C. E. Alexander
saloon.  Mr. Oelschlager owns land in Houston county, Texas.

Mr. Oelschlager was married in Danube, Minnesota, June 19, 1901, to Bertha
Laumer, a native of Renville county.  She is a daughter of Ernest and
Henrietta Laumer and was born March 25, 1882.  They have four children,
Lillian, Alfred, William and Alice.

Fred W. is a son of Julius and Wilhelmina (Janke) Oelschlager, native of
Germany.  They came to the United States in 1885 and now are residents of
Olivia.  They have seven children: Fred W., of this sketch; Martha (Mrs.
William Witte), of Danube, Minnesota; Emma (Mrs. Julius Haas), of New
Richmond, Minnesota; Herman, of Danube, Minnesota; Minnie (Mrs. Louis
Casey), of Minneapolis; Robert and Arthur of Olivia.
