JAMES O'CONNOR, JR. (1882)

James O'Connor, Jr. was born in Granite Falls June 13, 1882.  He is a son of
James and Tena O'Connor, born April 22, 1856, and in 1865, respectively.
The mother died February 22, 1908.

Our subject received his education and grew to manhood in Granite Falls,
being a graduate of the public schools of that place and living there until
twenty-two years of age.  For a time he farmed with his father 1120 acres of
land in Hazel Run township.  He was graduated from the Minnesota Business
College in 1904 and then took a position in the State Bank of Renville,
Minnesota, where he remained one year.

After that service Mr. O'Connor took an extended trip through the West,
being at Los Angeles at the time of the San Francisco earthquake.  Three
days later he visited the city by the Golden Gate and viewed the ruins.
Returning to Yellow Medicine county, he located at Hanley Falls and ran a
hardware store until April, 1908, when he located on his farm in Hazel Run
township, the property having been turned over to him by his father, who
retired.  Mr. O'Connor has a splendid farm of 320 acres--three eighties on
section 3 and one eighty on section 10--and is devoting much attention to
the raising of Ohio Chester White hogs and Durham cattle.

Mr. O'Connor was married November 8, 1906, to Lena Enger, of Hanley Falls.
She is a daughter of Elling and Anna (Lee) Enger and was born January 9,
1884.  They have two children: Arda, born November 2, 1907; and Myrtle, born
October 15, 1910.

Mr. O'Connor is a member of the Masonic Lodge of Wood Lake and Modern
Woodmen of America Lodge at Renville.
