OLE OBERG (1872)

Ole Oberg, who farms the southeast quarter of section 8, Sandnes township,
was born in Norway on July 24, 1862.  He is a son of Ole H. and Alma
(Orvold) Oberg, born August 8, 1818, and September 15, 1821, respectively.

The family came to the United States in 1872, direct to Yellow Medicine
county, and homesteaded the above described 160 acres of land.  A small log
house was put up, which answered the purpose of a home for many years, and
there the family experienced the trials and tribulations of pioneers, with
grasshoppers and blizzards in plentiful abundance.  They brought up the
following children: Atle, Anna, Sarah (Mrs. Mickelson), of Friendship
township; Hans and Lasse, twins; Christina (Mrs. Orwoll) of Hanley Falls;
Nels, Ole, and Sylfest.

Ole Oberg went to school some in Norway, but being only nine years of age
when he came to America, most of his education was secured in the district
schools of Yellow Medicine county.  He has been engaged in farming all
except two years, those being spent with an aunt at Jackson, Minnesota.  On
the death of his father, which occurred August 8, 1885.  Ole took the
management of the farm--280 acres--and has since been engaged in its
management.  His farming specialty is the raising of thoroughbred Guernsey
cattle and Duroc-Jersey hogs, with both of which he has been very
successful.

Mr. Oberg is not married.  He has served his township as supervisor, and he
is a member of the Norwegian Lutheran church of Hanley Falls.  His mother
died January 29, 1904.
