Henry was born in Point Douglas, Minn., May 27, 1857, a son of John C. and Lydia L. (Ledyard) Henry. The father was born in Cherry Valley, New York, February 7, 1832 , and the mother first saw the light of day in Richland, Oswego county, New York, July 25, 1835. She was a daughter of John & Cornelia (Jones) Ledyard, who were married September 14, 1823, the former being born in Bennington, Vermont, July 12, 1797, and the latter in Richland, Oswego county, New York, August 10, 1803. John C. Henry first came to Washington county, Minnesota in 1853, but returned to the east and was married October 20th of that year. Two years later, in 1855, he returned to Washington county and bought 155 acres of land in Denmark township. Mr. and Mrs. John C. Henry were the parents of two children. Charles O. is the subject of this sketch. Bertha C. married William Eastman and resides in North Yakima, in the state of Washington. The mother died June 24, 1889, and the father married his second wife, Harriet A. Atwater, in May 1891. John C. Henry passed away February 22, 1905 , and his widow still survives living on the old homestead in Denmark township. Charles O. Henry attended the public schools of his native township and at Hastings, Minn., and commenced work on the farm with his father, remaining until 1884, when he built his present residence. He was married November 12, 1879, to Florence E. Taylor, born in Indiana, November 6, 1862 , a daughter of Asher F. and Minerva J. (Hardy) Taylor. The father was a member of Company C, Eighty-second Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He enlisted August 20, 1862, and died of typhoid fever at Hospital Number 5, at New Albany, Ind., August 31, 1863. Mr. and Mrs. Henry were the parents of three children: Myrtle was born December 28, 1881, and married Edward Priestley, of Precott, Wis. They have six children, Edna May, Hazel Marie, Maud M., Myrtle F., Loyd W. and Charles S. The second child of Mr. and Mrs. Henry is Earl F. born January 2, 1892, and the third is Ralph, born December 8, 1895. The mother passed away January 27, 1896, and on September 5, 1899, Mr. Henry married Mary E. Cavanaugh, daughter of Patrick and Catherine (Quinby) Cavanaugh, born at Galesburg, Ill., September 24, 1864. Mr. and Mrs. Cavanaugh were natives of Ireland, but were brought to New York when they were children, by their parents. They were married in Galesburg, Ill., where they lived the remainder of their lives. The mother died January 20, 1884, and the father passed away February 10, 1905. Mr. Henry has been Treasurer of school district Number 49 since 1879. In 1885, he was elected assessor of Denmark township. In 1892, he was elected a member of the board of Supervisors and three years later was elected town clerk, a position which he holds at the present time. He is a member of K.O.T.M. and Modern Brotherhood. Mrs. Henry is a member of the Guardian Angels Catholic church of Hastings, Minn., while Mr. Henry and the children are members of St. Mary's Episcopal church of Basswood Grove, Minn.
