Nelson, ed., History of Scandinavians in the United States Giere, Nils A., clergyman--Black River Falls [WI]--born March, 1856, in Dane county, Wis. His father was from Hallingdal, and his mother from Urland, Norway. Both came to Dane county in 1845, were married ten years later, and settled permanently in Olmsted county, Minn., in the summer of 1856. Young Giere received a common school education; attended Luther College, Decorah, Iowa, about four years; studied theology at Luther Seminary, Madison Wis., and completed his theological course at Northfield, Minn., in 1887. From 1887-91 he served Anti-Missourian congregations in the vicinity of Aberdeen, S.D. Since the latter date he has had charge of an independent Lutheran church at his present place, although he himself is a member of the United Norwegian Lutheran Church. Giere is an able speaker.
