L. Polk & Co. GIERE, CLAUS O. (Bergan & Giere), hardware, Hayfield, is a native of Dane County, Wis., and was born April 11, 1862. He was raised on a farm and educated in the district schools. In 1869 he came with his parents to Rock Dell, Minn. In 1889 he left home and bought a farm in Vernon Township, this county. In 1893 he came to Hayfield and engaged in his present business connections. In 1889 our subject was united in marriage to Caroline Fingerson, daughter of Ole Fingerson, a farmer of Rock Dell Township, and to this union there are two children, of whom both are living, as follows: Cyril and Esther. In politics he affiliates with the Republicans. He has been prominent in the affairs of this county, having held the positions of congressional committeeman two terms, and has frequently been sent as a delegate to various Republican conventions, state, congressional and county. The family are members of the Lutheran Church. Mr. Giere is a son of one of the early pioneer settlers of Dane County, Wis. His father's family consists of four sons and six daughters, all of whom lived in such a manner as to reflect much credit to themselves and on the family name. The Rev. Nels O. Giere is a minister of the Gospel in the Norwegian Lutheran Church at Sacred Heart, Minn. Erick O. Giere is a prominent physician and surgeon at Madison, Minn., and Joseph Giere, a prominent druggist, died at Madison, Minn., in 1899. p. 106 Additional Comments: R. L. Polk & Co.
