James Callan was born somewhere in County Monaghan, Ireland and it is not known for certain when he came to this country. He is thought to have spent time in New York and Ohio before coming west. He married Elizabeth in 1851 and there oldest children appear to have been born in Wisconsin. Elizabeth is said to been born in Berlin but this is not certain. They settled in Dakota County in 1854 and established a farm in Eagan Township.

During his residence in Dakota County, James served as a county commissioner, justice of the peace and Eagan town supervisor. James and Elizabeth are both buried in St. Peter's cemetery in Mendota Minnesota.

Benjerman was apparently born somewhere in Wisconsin and came to Minnesota while still an infant. He was raised in Eagan Township and married in 1880. He apparently met his wife wile working as a hired hand on her parents farm in Nininger. He and his wife eventually settled in Hastings where he operated a trucking business. There were apparently no children from this marriage. Mary died in Hastings in 1926 and Ben died two years later while visiting his sister, Mrs Watson in St. Paul.

MARY KENNEDY (1867-1913) Dau. of Henry Kennedy & Maggy Sullivan

James Callan was born and raised in Eagan Township, Dakota County.. In 1889, he married and appears to have moved into St. Paul where the family attended St. Michael's church. His wife was born in Inver Grove where her father had settled in the 1850s. About 1895, James actively took up farming in Inver Grove Township where the family was still living in 1910.

Little information is available on this family after about 1910. James apparently dies on April 4 1948 and was supposedly buried at St. Peters church in Mendota. He was residing at 137th Ave N in South St. Paul at the time of his death.
