| Introduction for Family Stories One hundred and fifty years has passed since the first of my ancestors arrived in this country. During that time they all suffered the trials of survival in a strange country, each with their own story of success. Some happy while others are very sad, but each an interesting historical story of conditions and events in their lives. Over the years I have accumulated a number of stories from interviews with family members and my intent of this page is to present them for what they are, memories, not necessarily facts as required of genealogy. Each month, (time permitting), a different family will be selected and appear here with a few pictures, so you will want to check back frequently - your family may be next. This month's featured family member is my father, Horace Peter Richter, son of Frederick A. and Ida Bisplinghoff Richter. A story of a man's struggle to survive in a constantly changing world. A man whose only asset was his determination. Tom Brokaw in his "The Greatest Generation" makes the claim that Pete's generation from WW-1 produced the greatest generation of all time with the depression babies of the WW-11 era. He bases this on their contribution towards making this the greatest country in all history. All prior generations have certainly contributed to our 'greatness', and I for one, credit all my ancestors for making my life so much easier than theirs. I would like to thank my brother Joseph, and daughter Sandra Ann, for submitting their memories of a man they loved. I hope you enjoy this new feature. Every life is a story, and if you would like to contribute either your family story or pictures for a future presentation, please contact me. |
