While his mission was being carried out the air raid alarm sounded at which time enemy artillery became extremely active against the beach, Lieut Kube was in the vicinity of an evacuation station and when it became apparent that the wounded had
to be removed from the area he volunteered his services of his tractors. He assisted in loading the wounded aboard the tractors and while so doing two shells fell close by the evacuation station, killing on corpsman and wounding another as they were assisting him. Without attempting to seek cover Lieut. Kube continued to place the wounded aboard the tractor. Through his coolness and leadership the tractors were completely loaded with casualties. When this was accomplished it was discovered that the crew of one of the vehicles had taken cover from the shelling and could not be located, without hesitation Lt. Kube manned the tractor personally and took the load of casualties to a hospital ship. His disregard for his personal safety and his cool determined leadership and his courageous conduct were in keeping with the highest tradition of the U.S. Naval Service. In addition to service cited here, Lieut. Kube went through the battle of the Marshall Islands, Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima. After Saipan he received the Presidential citation. Before entering the Marines Kube was graduated from the La Cross State Teachers College. His brothers in service are Lieut Commander Cleo J. Kube, naval air pilot and Lieut. Commander George F.
