Dobbins until 21, to learn the trade of a shoemaker. Archibald, age 9 years old, is bound to Adlai Osborn to learn the trade of a weaver. Sarah, age 7 3/4 years, is bound until 18, & is to receive from David Cowin (to whom she is bound), a cow & calf, a spinning wheel and a side saddle. **12 Feb 1785 - William Murphy, orphan of James Murphy, aged 17 years in next Feb., is bound to Henry Hughey, Jr. until 21, to become a weaver. NC, have 284 acres on both sides of the South Fork of Deep River next the old line of the said Buis, beginning on the corner of the old survey at a hickory and going east 46 chains, crossing the river, to a white oak on the line of William Baldwin, nor 40 degrees east 40 chains to a white oak, north 30 chains to a white oak, on ____ the division line, west 34 chains west, crossing the river to the beginning it being a part of the 581 acres which Earl Granville let the same James Morphew (Murphey) have on 06 Nov 1756 for ____________, the release price being 30 pounds proclamation money on the next day. James Carter; William Bues, James Murphy.) 20 Oct 1758: On the Motion of John Dunn Attorney for a Dedimus Potestem to issue to Examine Mary Murphy, the Wife of James Murphy, relative to her relinquishing her right of Dower of a certain tract of Land conveyed the said James to William Buese, Esqr. Ordered that the Dedem. Pot. issue according to Christopher Nation Esq. Moravian Records, Vol. II, page 786: (Soelle's diary of 1771 to 1773): "Mr. Murphee, who had a meeting house west of the Yadkin, made him welcome there whenever he chose to preach." Page 878: Soelle cross Yadkin "might go by Murphee's and return by Douthit's, or he might go and come by the Shallow Ford." Page 867 (1775): In Timber Ridge there was a large congregation, about 200 being present, among them the Baptist preacher Murphy, who as soon as Utley was out of the house, (balance illegible) "Crossed the Yadkin, and preached in Mr. Morphee's meeting house, some miles beyond. Morphee (or Murphee) lived in the neighborhood, and sometimes entertained Soelle in his home. On 05 Mar 1773, Soella records that Murphee is planning to move elsewhere. (Solomon Kelly was appointed Constable in Captain Sharpes Company on 05 Feb 1784.) 12 Feb 1785: Samuel Murphy is made overseer of the new road laid out "from Boon's Gap in the Brushy Mountains by Samuel Murphy's Plantation to the Widow Tarences" &c. 12 Feb 1785: James Murphy is a nonjuror in Capt. Davidson's district Aug. 8, 1778 (McCubbins note: that means he was a tory over about Beaty's Ford section or near that region about Mooresville.) 17 Nov 1806: John Long (no wife signs) lets Daniel Murphy, both of Rowan NC, have 78 1/4 acres between the Ridge Fork and Abbots Creek on both sides of the main road from Guilford to Lexington, next Daniel Murphy & John Livengood, for $200.00, witnessed by John Wayman & Hiram Lane and proved by John Wayman in Feb. 1815. (This is a surplus of a tract left by the will of deceased Richard Jordon Mitchell to his 3 sons and this particular portion fell to the youngest of the three who let John Long, a blacksmith, have it. 23 Jul 1811: Jeremiah Brown as guardian of John Murphy & Samuel Lemly on bond (to give up wife's dower) of $2,000.00 proved by Wm. Hampton. It is an arbitration bond from Jeremiah to John Murphy. 14 Dec 1819: Hannah Murphy lets her son Joseph Murphy have his share of the undivided tract of 56 acres on Rich Ford of Abbotts Creek next Charles Pidgeon witnessed by Ezekiel Brown & Robert Killion in Nov. term of 1822 & proved by the former. (This land was willed by the late Daniel Murphy to Joseph, Charles & John Murphy who were his sons. **10 Mar 1821: James Webb & David Yarborough of the Town of Hillsborough in Orange County NC lets Archibald D. Murphy of same county have 1200 acres in Rowan Co. on the Yadkin River & Abbots Creek (to secure certain persons as Archibald D. Murphy has contracted to sell this to Jesse Hargrave of Lexington in Rowan) next . . . . Archibald D. Murphy bought this land from Alexander Frohock. Nov. 1835: "Ordered by Court that F. Slater, Shff. receive the sum of One Dollar & sixty cents for cloth purchased of John Murphy for the use of the jail." Rumple's History gives considerable amount the Long Family. Two Long sisters married two Murphy brothers and the two of the other Murphy brothers married two Chunn sisters. I, John Murphy, of the Town of Salisbury, Rowan County, N. Carolina, being in perfect health of body and sound mind and memory blessed be God, and knowing that it is appointed unto all men once to die, have thought proper to give the following directions as to the worldly goods wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life. I commend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it and my body to be buried in a decent Christianlike manner. It is left to the direction of the Executors to continue the business in merchandising from one to four years as they may think best at whatever time the division takes place Mrs. Mary Murphy is to have in addition to what has already been named for her from one to Five negroes her own choice, also one to four horses and one to four milch caves (milk calves) her own choice. The property willed to Mrs. Mary Murphy is to be hers during her natural life and at her death is to go to our four children Equally, Andrew, Robert, James and William Murphy, or as many of them as are in existence at her death. The Sum given to Andrew Murphy being Two Thousand Dollars is to be that much to him over his equal share with all the rest, whenever the first division takes place. It will consist of goods, bonds, debts, bank stock, houses and , negroes, horses, cattle, hogs, poultry, all the property I possess except what has been given to Mrs. Mary Murphy and Andrew Murphy and is to be equally divided by fit persons appointed for that purpose between my four children, William, James, Robert and Andrew Murphy. The business at Statesville to be continued as it is until division.
