NC and later enlisted while living in Franklin Co. NC and at age of 40 to 45 he moved to Logan Co. KY for two years, then to Henderson Co. KY, then to Johnson Co. IL, then to Lawrence Co. AR, and later lived - for short periods of time on the MO frontier. He applied 21 May 1833 in Lawrence Co. AR, having lived there for 6 years. Soldier died 06 Apr 1835 (place not given). Received a wound at the Battle of Monmouth 28 Jun 1779 on the elbow of his right arm from the splinter of the carriage of a piece of artillery; that the said wound disqualifies him in a great degree from labor which requires the raising of the arms. Soldier was born 25 Dec 1742 in York Co. PA and he lived in Rockbridge Co. VA at enlistment; then moved to Botetourt Co. VA and also enlisted there in 1777 and after his service, soldier lived in Greene Co. TN, then moved to Sevier Co. TN; then to Rhea Co. TN; and in 1819 he moved to McMinn Co. TN where he applied 06 Sep 1832. (1) Murphey, Edward, Sgt: born 25 Dec 1742, York County PA. While a resident of Rockbridge County VA, Edward Murphey enlisted during the fall of 1774 under Capt. Morrow and Col. Lewis. He went on an expedition against the Shawnee Indians and was in the battle at the point between the Elk and Ohio Rivers. In the fall of 1776, he enlisted as an orderly sergeant under Capt. Morrow and Col. Christie in an engagement against the Cherokee Indians and was in the fight at Long Island on Holston River. After this tour, he moved from Rockbridge County to Botetourt County VA where he enlisted during 1777 as orderly sergeant under Capt. Tedford and Col. Samuel Lewis, and was in the battle at Brandywine. During the fall of 1780, he enlisted as orderly sergeant under Capt. Christian and was in the battle at Kings Mountain. He enlisted during 1781 as orderly sergeant under Capt. David Clyde, Lt. Tedford, Ensign David Clyde, Jr. and an orderly sergeant under Capt. James Gilmore and was a part of the time under Col. Lewis. He was in the seige of Yorktown. Murphey was allowed pension on his application executed 06 Sep 1832 while residing in McMinn County TN. (3) (5) Murphy, Edward: He enlisted in the Second Regiment on 04 Nov 1775 and re-enlisted on 01 Nov 1779 under Capt. Thomas Moultrie. (4) Murphey, Gabriel: Clarissa, R7509. Soldier was born about 1756 and died in 1818 in Russel Co. VA. Soldier married Clarassa Harndon in Caswell Co. NC in 1771 and she died 28 Dec 1842, Logan Co. VA. A son, John Murphey applied 23 Dec 1858 age 64. (1) Murphy/Murphey, Gabriel: Continental and VA Line S35531. Soldier was born Jan 1760; he lived in Hampshire Co. VA at enlistment. He applied 03 Sep 1819 Nelson Co. KY where he had lived for 27 years and he was still there in 1840. In 1820 soldier had a wife aged 57 and two daughters, also a granddaughter aged 4 lived with him (no names given). (1) Murphy/Murphey, Gabriel: Born Jan 1760. While a resident of Hampshire County VA, Gabriel Murphy enlisted the last of Dec 1778 and served under Capt. John Stribling, Capt. Oldham, Capt. Andrew Wallace, Capt. Richard Easton, Capt. Thomas Edmund, and Col. Richard Parker in the First VA Regiment, in the Seventh VA Regiment, in Lt. Col Washington's Third Continental Regiment, and in Lt. Robert Jouett's company in the First VA Detachment. He was in the battles at Rugeley's Mill, Cowpens, Guilford Courthouse, Camden, Ninety Six, and Eutaw Springs (where he was severely wounded in the right side and the left arm). Murphey was allowed pension on his application executed 03 Sep 1819 while residing in Nelson County KY, 57 years. He was still living in the same county in 1840. A reference was made to two daughters, but their names were not given. VA Rev. War Rej. Claims (3) Murphy, George: Hannah. MA Line W24024, BLW 12707-160-55. Soldier was bon in Feb 1759 in Arundel MA (ME) and he lived at Wells MA (ME) at enlistment and after the Rev he lived at Arundel MA (ME) then to Cape Porpoise which became Kennebunkport ME and in 1793 he moved to Lyman MA (ME) for ten years, then to Mount Desert MA (ME) where he applied 14 May 1834. Soldier married Miss Hannah Hutchins or Hutchens 07 Aug 1792 at Cape Porpoise MA (ME). Soldier died 27 Mar 1842 at Mount Desert ME and his widow applied there 23 Oct 1844. She applied for BLW in 1855 at Tremont ME. Children were: Hannah born 03 May 1793 and died 04 Aug 1793; Israel born 01 Oct 1794 and in 1845 he was living at Mt. Desert ME; Joseph born 20 Mar 1797; Ann born 02 Apr 1799; George born 27 Oct 1800; Esther born 11 Oct 1802; Joshua born 29 Nov 1805; and Mary born 08 Feb 1808. First child was born at Cape Porpoise, the next five were born at Lyman and the last three were born at Mount Desert. There was a ninth child but no name was given. In 1844 widow stated her youngest child was then aged 34. Widow's brother John C. Hutchins was aged 71, a resident of Kennebunkport ME and in 1844 a John Murphy was a resident of Mount Desert ME, but his relationship to soldier's family wasn't stated. Soldier married Ann, daughter of George Nellis on 27 Dec 1797 at Minden NY. Soldier was born 14 Dec 1762 at Canajoharie NY and was the son of Petries Murphy who was deceased in 1791. Soldier lived at Canajoharie NY at enlistment. Soldier received a disability pension from 27 Oct 1786. In 1824 he was living in Minden (formerly Canajoharie) NY. In 1834 he had moved to Start NY where he died 06 May 1847. Widow applied 08 Nov 1848 at Stark NY aged 76 and she applied there for BLW on 07 Apr 1855. In 1832 a Peter P. Murphy was a physician at Stark NY and in 1848 an Aaron Nellis was a NP for Fulton Co. NY, relationship unknown. (1) Murphy/Murphey, Hezekiah: Sary. MD Line W5395, BLW 26974-160-55. Applied 13 Nov 1832 Nelson County KY aged 68. Soldier enlisted in Montgomery County MD where he was born in 1763 or 1764. In 1788 he moved to Loudoun County VA and in 1793 he returned to Montgomery County MD then moved with his father to Nelson County KY and in 1831 soldier moved to Lincoln County MO where he lived when he applied in Nelson County KY while there on business. Widow applied 14 Nov 1850 Lincoln County MO, aged 74. Soldier married Sary Cotton 17 Apr 1794 in Nelson County KY. Soldier died 31 Jul 1842. Widow applied for BLW 30 Apr 1855 Lincoln County MO. Soldier was born 11 Nov 1752 at Argyleshire in North Britain and he came to America and settled in New Hanover County NC on 14 Dec 1744 and he lived there at enlistment and shortly after the Rev he moved to Bladen County NC where he applied 06 Aug 1833. Soldier died 16 Apr 1835 leaving children (not named). One Findley Murphy was referred to as living during the Rev and in 1834 a Robert Murphy was a JP for Bladen County NC. After Gate's Defeat, he was incorporated into the Continental line under Lt. Col. Washington and was in the battle at Cowpens. He was granted 100 acres of bounty land in 1789. Soldier lived in Tryon County, the part that is now Rutherford County NC at enlistment and after the Rev. he lived in Iredell County NC where he applied 19 Sep 1832. Soldier was born in 1747 in County Antrim in Ireland. On 26 Jan 1853 soldier's surviving children were: James Murphey, aged 58 and Luvina Coggin of Franklin County NC where they signed p.o.a. as heirs of deceased soldier and Ash L. & Wm. W. Coggin were witnesses to their p.o.a. (1) James Murphe(y). Deposition of James (M) Murphe before Robt. MO and in 1841 Richard Murphy was a JP for said county and in 1841 a David Murphy made affidavit in said county but their relationship to soldier's family was not given. In 1842 soldier's half brother David Murphy, who was born 23 Apr 1770, made affidavit in St. Francis Co. MO. In 1844 a Henderson Murphy made affidavit in St. Francis Co.
