Jefferson Murphy . . . Frederick County Indentures, Guardian and Apprentice Bonds: Murphy, Sylvester, was born on 24 Jan 1794, in Frederick County VA. He was bound to William Ball to learn the hat-making trade. His father, John Murphy, was deceased prior to 24 Jan 1812, when the indenture was dated in the Frederick County VA court. Murphy, Silverton, son of John Murphy, deceased, was born on 24 Jan 1794. In May 1812 he was bound to William Ball to learn the trade of hatter. Cowgill, Ewing, son of Elisha and Martha (Ewing) Cowgill, was born on 22 Jul 1769, and died circa 1842 in Hampshire County VA. His wife was Susannah Buzzard, who was a daughter of Frederick and Susannah (Buckwalter) Buzzard. They lived in the Bloomery District of Hampshire County VA. Susannah died prior to 1819, proven by the fact that she was deceased when her father's estate was settled. The estate papers listed only six heirs . . . Elizabeth Cowgill married John Murphy on 03 Jul 1819 . . . Gill, Dolly, daughter of Spencer and Nancy Walker, was born in Loudoun County VA in 1803 and died in Hampshire County W.VA on 19 Oct 1880 . . . Their Bible records lists these children: Mariah Jane Gill was born on 20 Mar 1828 and died on 07 Nov 1891 Her first husband was William (Doc) Moreland, son of William and Sarah (Murphy) Moreland Hockman, Issac, was boprn 28 Sep 1854 and died on 14 Oct 1924. His wife, Annetta Murphy, was born on 29 Jun 1856 and died 03 Jun 1931 Larrick, Frederick, son of Casper and Elizabeth (Sundown) Larrick was born in 1783 and died in 1861. He married Elizabeth Secrist (1780-1870) . . . their children . . . John Larrick was born 04 Nov 1816 and died 1892. He married Margaret Murphy, born circa 1821. Light, John W. was murdered on 05 Nov 1844, by Robert W. Baker who knifed him in front of the residence of David Davis, in Frederick County VA. Also included in same Bible record was: Jeremiah Reid died 14 Aug 1827 . . . Tombstone Inscription: Murphy, James, was born on 13 Nov 1750 and died on 21 Mar 1799. He was buried on a farm about three miles from Green Spring, Hampshire County. Poston, Richard, son of Col. Elias and Rebecca (Cheshire) Poston, was born in 1790 in Hampshire County and died in Athens County OH in 1863. He married (1) Elizabeth Thompson, allegedly killed by runaway horses in Hampshire County VA; (2) Malinda (Murphy) Brammel; and (3) Mary Cool, daughter of Herbert and Ann (Sebring) Cool. Reid, Jeremiah, died 14 Aug 1827. Jane Reid died 05 Oct 1868, aged 81 years, 11 months. Presumably, Jane was Jeremiah's wife. Anderson Reid/Read died 28 May 1899. On same Bible page was a list of Murphy siblings, born from 1783 to 1804, with notation at a later date "unkles and aunts of Anderson Read." One hypothesis is that this Jeremiah Reid belonged to the Timber Ridge Reid families. Schrivner (Scrivenor), William, was born in 1793 and died on 02 May 1879. His wife, Elizabeth Coe, was born in 1790 and died in Oct 1852 at High View. They were buried in the Trone Methodist Church Graveyard, on Timber Ridge . . . . Nancy Scrivner is married to Jefferson Murphy . . . Sine, The Rev. Christy, son of William and Margaret (Christy) Sine, was born in York County PA on 05 Jul 1798 and died in Frederick County VA on 14 Apr 1858. His first wife was Margaret Kackley . . . Both she and Christy were buried in the Timber Ridge Christian Church cemetery on Tiber Ridge W. VA side. Next Christy married Nancy Murphy, daughter of Thomas Murphy on 25 Jun 1840. She was born on 11 Mar 1815 and died on 15 Nov 1851. Her grandfather, Henry Miller, came to this country with William Penn, and at one time owned a farm on which the city of Philadelphia now stands. (see Floyd Co. On 1st September, 1782, Francis Taggart leased a tract of land from James Murphy until Robert French, a child of James's wife by her first husband, came of age. James went to Ireland to transact some business. James's wife was Mary. Murphy and Taggart were kinsmen. April, 1796, abates by death of complainant and revived in name of Lucy Taggart & Edward Dyer, Admrs.
