Byrd I states there was a great flood about 5 weeks before, washing away fences, topsoil and a mill. Byrd and neighbors crops ruined. p. 41 to Arthur North, 5 Jun 1685. Byrd states that since the flood, there has been drought and he won't be making corn or tobacco. p. 56 spring 1685, Charles II died and was succeeded by his brother James II, a Roman Catholic. p. 77 Byrd's sister Mary (1667-1717) was married about Apr 5, 1687 (while Byrd was in England) to Thomas Guy of Stepney. p. 90 In 1688 William of Orange and Mary his wife (daug of James II) entered England and became king and queen, James having fled the country. William and Mary were proclaimed sovereigns in Virginia on April 26, 1689. p. 106 Byrd purchase Westover in 1688 from Theodorick and Richard Bland, 1200 acres. p. 111 and others Letters from Byrd 1689 say a lot about Indians killing livestock, some people 1689-90 Byrd refers to "Mr. President Bacon", probably Nathaniel Bacon from the rebellion. 1691 Byrd mentions problems with bounds of the main Blackwater up to the Appomatox Indian towne. p. 186 Anne, daughter of James II and sister of Queen Mary, became queen of England on the death of William III in 1702. p. 188 Virginia, Mr. Bird's report relating to grants of land on the south side of Black Water Swamp, in Col. Nicholson's letter of 22 Oct 1703.
