Dear Lee,
Have you found any further information about Walter DeLaittre who
married Annette Evenson Eidstu Eaton DeLaittre? Eidstu was
apparently her husband when she married DeLaittre as you
have it listed as her name at the time. Was Eaton her second or
third? Do you have parents names for Walter or any dates?
I am doing a DeLaittre genealogy and would appreciate any
information you can provide. Since i am in Atlanta, Ga. it is
difficult to access Minnesota records as they are not online.
Thank you,
Martha B. Higgins
Hello Martha,
Wally, as I knew him till I was 15, was my grandmother Annette
Evenson Eaton Eidstu DeLaittre's last husband. She divorced Eaton
, Eidstu died, then she married Walter DeLaittre, who as I
understand was formerly married and had at least one son, Jim
DeLaittre who was an officer/detective for the Minneapolis
Police Dept. Wally was a WWII veteran of North Africa
campaign(In Ordinance Dept.)and had lost one leg in the war there.
(He used to hide candy for me and my brothers in the wooden leg!)
He worked part of the time at cemeteries like Fort Snelling where
he is buried. He and my grandmother had a house in Bloomington,
MN together where my family would visit them when I was young,
mostly at Christmastime. Sadly he died of a heart attack on the
day we all came to Minneapolis for Christmas in 1965. Not much
was said about him after that so his info is just these few
facts. If he does fit in with any of your research I would
appreciate any info you could provide.
Hope this helps,

Hello again, still working on the DeLaittres. Have some info I thought
you might like to have.
Walter "Wally" Leighton DeLaittre was the son of Arthur Delaittre and
Minnie Leighton DeLaittre. Arthur was the son of John B. DeLaittre and
Rachel Bacon Folsom and he was born October 6, 1859 and died in 1932 in
Minneapolis, MN. John B. DeLaittre was born in Foxcroft, Maine on
June 20, 1818 (another source says July 20, 1818) and died 2-8-1864 and
is buried in Soldier's Cemetery, Houlton, Aroostook County, Maine. John
B. is the son of Louis/Lewis DeLaittre and Hannah Noble and grandson of
Charles DeLaittre and Harriet (Marie) DeLaittre who emigrated from
France. Rachel was born in Littleton, Aroostook County, Maine and
died in 1860 in Kingman, Maine.
Arthur was a twin to Walter DeLaittre and brother to George Washington
DeLaittre and Mamie DeLaittre. He also had 4 half siblings from his
father's second marriage.
I have a lot more sorting out to do on this line still, but this is a
start.
Hope this is of interest to you and keep me in mind if you find anything
else. I would be interested in anything you might find on Walter
Leighton's first wife or his children from that marriage as I have
nothing yet. Am I correct in assuming there were no children from his
marriage to Annette?
Happy Thanksgiving,
Martha B. Higgins
