According to Joe Boyle (Mapes in America, and Genealogies of Long Island Families)-
On 11 Apr 1663 Thomas Mapes bought extensive lands at Southold including a home lot and dwelling house. Thomas was the surveyor for the town of Southold and apparently was well educated when he arrived. There is no record of when he arrived in this country but he appeared in Southold about 1649. , There is no real proof of his parentage although there are several genealogies that might indicate otherwise.

Sarah Purrier [Parents] was born 1630 in Olney, Buckinghamshire, England. She died 1697 in Southhold, Long Is., U.S.A.. Sarah married Thomas Mapes on 1650 in Southhold, Long Is., U.S.A..

William Purrier of Southold  Will dated 1671 proved 1676 ( Suffolk Sessions Book 1669-1687) also recorded in New York says grandson James Reeve and Isaac Reeve living with him. Gives said James Jeeve his dwellinghouse and lands and asks him to take care of his mother "my eldest daughter Mary Reeve". Also names youngest daughters Sarah Mapes and Martha Osman, granddaughter Mar Windes and Thomas Terrill who married my granddaughter Mary reeves.

Alice X was born 1598 in Olney, Buckinghamshire Co, England. She died before 1671 in Southold, Suffolk, NY. Alice married William Purrier in Olney, Buckinghamshire, England.
