The Frederick Family Tree


Thomas James Shaw [Parents] was born about 1860 in Faribault, Rice Co, Minnesota. He married Matilda M Horsky.

Thomas Shaw left Matilda in Owatonna, Minnesota and went to the Dakotas in search of a  homestead when Mabel was small child.  He is believed to have remarried and had a second family.

Matilda M Horsky [Parents] was born 1875 in Owatonna, Steele Co, Minnesota, USA. She married Thomas James Shaw.

When Matilda refused to marry the man her father had selected for her to marry, she was ostracized from the family.  She did maintain her contact with the family through a man who was the teller in the Owatonna bank (possibly named Zimbliski).     Thomas Shaw left Matilda in Owatonna, Minnesota and went to the Dakotas in search of a  homestead when Mabel was small child.  He is believed to have remarried and had a second family.    Until she caught tuberculosis (consumption), Matilda took care of a sickly friend, Mrs. Estella (Lane) Laughlin.  After catching tuberculosis and before she died, Matilda asked George and Estella Laughlin to adopt Mabel and ensure that she was brought up Roman Catholic.

They had the following children:

  F i Mabel Irene Shaw was born 29 Mar 1897 and died 20 Dec 1949.

Ed Hanson was born 23 Oct 1911 in Williston, Williams Co, North Dakota, USA. He died 12 Feb 1998 in Daniels Memorial Hospital, Daniels Co, Scobey, Montana, USA and was buried Feb 1998 in Scobey Cemetery, Daniels Co, Scobey, Montana. Ed married Dawn May Frederick on 12 Feb 1946 in Helena, Lewis and Clark Co, Montana.

As a youth, Ed was in the CCCs in the northwest and served in the Navy during WWII.  He spent most of his life as a wheat farmer near Flaxville, Montana on the former homestead of Samuel W. Frederick; Ed's wife, Dawn's grandfather.
In addition, Ed was a master cabinet maker, making fine furniture.  Ed was a Shriner for the Yabba Doo from Williston, North Dakota.

Dawn May Frederick [Parents] 1 was born 8 Sep 1922 in Flaxville, Daniels Co, Montana. She died 5 Mar 2002 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA and was buried 11 Mar 2002 in Scobey Cemetery, Daniels Co, Scobey, Montana, USA. Dawn married Ed Hanson on 12 Feb 1946 in Helena, Lewis and Clark Co, Montana.

Dawn was employed farm wife, elementary school teacher.

Dawn attended Northern Montana College in Havre and earned her degree in Education in 1942.  She returned to Northern Montana College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Dawn taught sixth grade in the Scobey Elementary Schools until her retirement.       At home, Dawn became a skilled seamstress, and Dawn and Ed made cross-stitch pictures.  Dawn did the sewing, and Ed made the frames. Dawn also keeps busy with crafts, making beautifully crafted pillows and Teddy bears.

Dawn Hanson

  SCOBEY -- Dawn Hanson, 79, died Tuesday in Colorado Springs, Colo., after a long illness.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Flaxville, with burial in Scobey Cemetery. Waller Funeral Home of Scobey is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include daughters Sharon Grow of Broomfield, Colo., Anne Anderson of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Carla Eggebrecht of Plano, Texas; and a son, Fred Hanson of Wolf Point.
