Christ Church, Thornes

Christ Church Thornes built about 1873 after an appeal by Canon Madden for help to provide a Mission Hall & School in Thornes Lane.

The widow of the Vicar of Wooley, Mrs. Robinson provided the money for the building of Christ Church, unfortunately the church survived for less than 80 years with the last service being on Trinity Sunday 1955.

In 1955 due to the decline of housing in the Thornes area and falling congregations when Christ Church closed the congregation was welcomed into the congregation of St James.
