Money

£ (libra) l = pound

s. = shilling
20 shillings make one pound

d. (denarius) = penny. (pence)
12 pennies make one shilling

Other coins
guinea = one pound one shilling
crown five shillings make one crown
half-crown = two shillings and six pence
florin = two shillings
sixpence as implied by name
thruppence = three pence
ha'pence or halfpenny
farthing four farthings make one penny

16 ounces (oz) make 1 pound (lb)
14 pounds make 1 stone (st)
8 stones make 1 hundredweight (cwt)
20 hundredweight make 1 ton

28 pounds make 1 quarter (qtr)
4 quarters make 1 hundredweight

Length

Square or surface measures

Mile = 1760 yards
Furlong =220 yards
Chain = 22 yards (100 links)
Yard =3 feet
Foot = 12 inches

144 sq. inches = 1 sq. foot
9 sq. feet = 1 sq. yard
301/4 sq. yards = 1 perch, or rod, or pole
40 perches = 1 rood

 Quarter Days
25 March, Lady Day also called Annunication Day, (the annunication of the Virgin Mary)
From about 1170 to 1 January 1752 the year started on 25 March (Lady Day).
It was also one of the important quarter days of the year when servants were hired for the next year and payments became due. (It is still used as the start of the tax year in the UK but with the 11 days added)

24 June, Midsummers Day
29 September, Michaelmas
