There were other schools in the area: the Homan School, on Cemetery Road; the Plank Road School, at the corner of Edinboro Road near

Tobins & Maloney's; the Skeltontown School, at Skeltontown; the Tarry School on Fry Road; the Himebaugh School, a mile west of

Venango on Mosiertown Road; the Hotchkiss School across from Cussewago United Methodist Church; and the Sherred School on

Sherred Road. These one-room schools were only about two miles apart, but in those days, children walked to and from school.

1820

Log schoolhouse was built on the southeast corner of Church Street and South Street. Charles Fletcher, John and Evan George were the

early teachers.

A one story frame schoolhouse was built about one mile west of Venango.

1857

A four-room, two-story schoolhouse was built at a cost of $1,350. It still exists today as the town meeting house and fire department.

1916-1917

Up to this time, the structure held eight grades and two years of high school.

1918

High school students sent to Cambridge Springs via the trolley car and later by buses.

1920's or 1930's

A fire escape was installed.

1954-1955

All students were sent to Cambrisge Springs Consolidated School by bus.
