R ome Township was formed in 1829 from Bloomfield and Oil Creek Townships. Its name was chosen by a group of Irish Catholics
who settled in the area around 1800. It is one of the largest townships in Crawford County.
The township is located in the northeastern portion of the county, bordering on the west with
Athens Township.
