Hydetown is located in Oil Creek Township. It was originally incorporated as Oil Creek on April 23, 1868 from Oil Creek Township. The name was changed to Hydetown in 1882. W.C. Hyde was the community's first judge of elections and the village's first burgess. Peter Titus, father of Titusville's founder, was Hydetown's first permanent settler.
