Cambridge Springs is located on the banks of French Creek near the center
of Cambridge Township and was incorporated on April 3, 1866 from Cambridge
Township. It was settled in 1822.
The town was originally known as Cambridgeboro, but was changed to Cambridge
Springs in 1897 to reflect the growing popularity of the mineral springs in
the community.
Several luxury hotels and numerous rooming houses were built to accomodate
the tourists who traveled by rail from Pittsburgh, Cleveland and New York to
sample the mineral-laden waters. Summer vistors enjoyed boating on French
Creek as well as the dances and concerts in the hotel ballrooms.
Today, the Riverside Inn is the only structure still operating.
