Bloomfield Township was once a part of Oil Creek Township. Its name was dreived from Thomas Bloomfield, a New Jersey native who settled in the area in 1798. It was incorporated from Oil Creek Township in 1811. Township villages include Lincolnville, Lakeville Station, Tillotson's Corners and Riceville.
