War Letters

There are far too many letters in my file to publish all online, and many of them deal with personal matters and give little information of interest to others. I have tried to pick a few representative samples from different branches of the Service, representing not just those on the front lines, but those serving on the home front also. I have also endeavored to only publish letters from those I can confirm to be deceased.

My purpose in publishing these letters is both to remember those who willingly served their country in a time of crisis and to enlighten those of today to whom these wars seem ancient history as to what these men and women were like.

  1. Letter from Sgt. Charles A. Hubnar, Jr., Boudreville, France, 9 Dec 1918.
  2. Letter from Lt. Cmndr. John Borland, Newport Naval Training Station, 14 Nov. 1918.
  3. Letter from Joseph R. Grimmer, deserter, Marfa Guard House, Texas, 17 Jan 1918.

World War II

  1. Letter from Seaman Wesley Sutton, on the USS Missouri, 10 May 1945
  2. Letter from Pfc. Clifford Lemerond, Co. E 168 Inf. , North Africa, 12 May 1943.
