Dr. Collin Foulkrod, Sr.

May 1874 - November 17, 1939

It can be determined from census records and the 1890 Philadelphia City Directory, that Dr. Collin Foulkrod was the son of George & Annie (          ) Foulkrod.  From the 1890 Philadelphia City Directory, George Foulkrod was probably a finish carpenter, a cabinetmaker, or the like.  And the family resided on Harrison Street within the Philadelphia City limits.  George & Annie (           ) Foulkrod had a family of four children: Jennie, b. November 1871; Collin, b. May 1874; Emily, b. April 1876; and
George M., b. May 1892.  See 1880 & 1900 U.S. Census records and 1890 Philadelphia City Directory, below:

Dr. Collin Foulkrod's obituary published in 1939 in Special to The New York Times, contributed by Carsten Johnston (P.O. Box 399, Pleasantville, NY 10570), reads as follows:

DR. COLLIN FOULKROD, OBSTETRICIAN, WAS 65

He Had Served on the Faculty of Jefferson Medical College

PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 17--Dr. Collin Foulkrod, obstetrician and teacher, died yesterday in Presbyterian Hospital after a brief illness. He was 65 years old.

A graduate of Jefferson Medical College in 1901, he later joined the college faculty and became assistant professor of obstetrics. He had been a member of the staff of Presbyterian Hospital since 1902. He was the author of many articles on obstetrics and gynecology.

Dr. Foulkrod was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a past president of the Philadelphia Obstetrical Society.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Gertrude Allen Foulkrod; a son, Collin Jr., of Philadelphia, and two daughters, Mrs. Marie Bechtel of Westfield, N. J., and Miss Harriet Foulkrod of this city.

Therefore, it can also be determined that Dr. Collin Foulkrod probably lived at home while attending Jefferson Medical College and since his graduation from that institution was in 1901,--that his marriage to Miss Gertrude Allen occurred after that same date.  Inspection of the 1910 and 1920 Soundex would likely provide more information on their children: Collin Jr., Marie, and Harriet but would fail to divulge his grandparents' identity.
