Abigail Becker's Daughter Passes
Walsingham: Mrs. J. W. Townsend received word from Mrs. Frank Bickley of San Leandro, California, that her sister, Miss Ella Rohrer of Vancouver B. C. has passed away on May 28.
Ella Rohrer was the eldest daughter of the late Henry Rohrer and Abigail Becker, the heroine of Long Point, who saved several men from drowning in 1854.
Miss Rohrer enlisted as a nurse during the First World War and at her passing was given a military funeral.
She was born on the seventh concession of Walsingham nearly 90 years ago on the farm which is now owned by Stewart Wingrove.
Mrs. Townsend can recall many happy memories of the days when they were neighbors in North Walsingham
