Walking with Ghosts..........
a website for the descendants of Angus and Nancy McCutchen MacLeod~~ Welcome to the newly redesigned Wilke Family Website. To navigate, please use the links provided on either side of the body of this page. To learn more about the navigation and history of this site and the researchers who have contributed, please begin your visit with Background. ~~~~~~~~ Update June 2 2009 - The DNA portion of the website has been updated or is being updated - with the recently increased number of participants in the MacLeod Surname project we are beginning to see some exciting things among the results. Evidence of branchings within the Clan are slowly emerging. These folks will be able to combine research efforts and hopefully, we'll be able to document the branches over the next few years. The site now includes additional tables showing the actual results of families within the project and with those who it appears may be part of previously unknown branches. As alway, the science of Genetic DNA is constantly evolving - as the science evolves so does the project. Please consider joining us in the MacLeod project or any of the other surname project at FTDNA..... Also new, Timothy Wayne McLeod has helped me to determine the variance rates and rankings of the markers, first using Dr. Charles F. Kerchner's spreadsheet and then by developing a formula that is slightly different than Dr. Kerchner's. Tim's LCF Rating looks at each marker as it relates to the data which helps us to determine if our sample is statistically large enough to believe what it is we see......a special thanks to Tim for this. It is something that I have been wanting to add to the site but had been unable to do prior to his timely arrival and offer of help! All the DNA Pages have been or will be updated in the next few days - please take the time to read over them especially if you've visited the site before as much has changed - hit your refresh button if you're not seeing the changes. ~~~~~~~~ Update April 14th 2009 - Humbly announcing that this site has received a the Gold Heritage Award . The criteria for this award was quite strict ~ I am very pleased to say that Walking with Ghosts recieved 91 out of a possible 100 points and no penalty points, but interestingly (at least to me) no bonus points either. The lack of bonus points means that the three member panel of judges feel that there are things that I can do to make the site better...i.e. add to more search engines, include a search engine and allow links to open in new windows. I had not even entertained the idea of allowing links to open in new windows until seeing this category on the results sheet sent to me by the Heritage Award judges.....and this got me pondering....would my visitors prefer to use their "back" button to return to the previous page or would they like a new window in order to toggle back and forth between the two? Since I have absolutely no idea, I decided to run a poll to find out......if you are interested in participating, please visit my blog (link to your left and to the top) and let me know what you want to see. A special thank you to the three judge panel not only for the honor they have given me, but also for their time and effort in improving free genealogy resources on the net~~
~~~~~~~~ February 15 2009 - Walking With Ghosts Introduction: I often tell family and friends that I walk with the ghosts of my late family members. I can recite years of family history, tell you how the name on a tombstone fits into the family tree or when a piece of property came into or went out of our family hands...but I find it difficult to remember the details about those I meet on a daily basis. A fault? Perhaps, but possibly one that is needed in order to be a family historian. Within the pages of this site one will find a compilation of not only the past eight years of my own research but the combined research of other members of our extended family. Some of these family researchers are now themselves members of the family of ghosts that walk with me....some of them are still among the living.....each will be given credit for the information they have provided in order to create these pages. If you would like to contribute to the family tree, please email me....If you would like this information for your own records, please remember to copy all the sourcing information (including web page addresses) and to leave that information intact within your own records. In this way, the circle of sharing will remain unbroken for our children and their children...... Shout outs to previous researchers who have provided so much of the information within this site:
