This is the Last Will & Testament of me Mary LEIGH wife of the Reverend William LEIGH of Dorchester in the County of Dorset Doctor of Divinity made the five and twentieth of May in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and thirty eight by a virtue of power reserved to me in my marriage settlement dated the eighth and twentieth day of ffebruary in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred twenty seven

Item: I give to my loving Brother Mr Henry CONSTANTINE one hundred pounds

Item: I give to my Nephew Henry JENNINGS the sum of three hundred pounds

Item: I give to my Nephew John JENNINGS three hundred pounds

Item: I give unto my Neice Susana HAWKINS the sum of Fifty pounds

Item: I give to my Neice Mary CONSTANTINE the sum of two hundred pounds

Item: I give to Neice Mary JENNINGS the sum of one hundred pounds

Item: I give to to my Neice Anne JENNINGS the sum of Fifty pounds

Item: I give to my Nephews James and Thomas JENNINGS the sum of twenty pounds a piece

Item: I give to my Neice Cathrine LEIGH my best Diamond Ring and my pearl necklace

Item: I give to my cousins Jane and Sela CONSTANTINE five pounds a piece

Item: I give to Sarah ROGERS if living with me at my death five pounds

Item: I give unto Dority [Dorothy] ROGERS five pounds

Item: I give to I give to Jane ROGERS her daughter five pounds

Item: I give Avis PORTER that nursed two [Ginneys] Guineas

Item: I give unto Mary CROABS two Guineas, whereas Elizabeth CONSTANTINE late of Piddletrenthide aforesaid widow did by her last will and Testament dated the ninth day of January in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundredand twenty five writing that her mother Mrs Frances OXONBRIGGE widow did by her will whereof she apointed the said Elizabeth CONSTANTINE her Executrix give her fifty pounds in trust to make a purchase therewith for the uses therein named she desired her exectutors to see the said will performed and all also gave the sum of one hundred pounds for the benefit of the said parish of Piddletrenthide and will and required her executors to place out at interest the said one hundred pounds and pay the yearly income thereof in binding out to good and useful common trades children of the said parish of Piddletrenthide and thereof made me and my said Brother CONSTANTINE joint executors to see her said will performed one moiety of which respective same is payable by me which I desire my executor hereafter named to see performed, after all my legacies and my debts are paid

All the Rest: of my estate mannors, lands, tenements with their appurtenances lying in Piddletrenthide which I hold in common with my said brother CONSTANTINE and all my goods plate linen I give to my loving husband William LEIGH desiring him at his death to give what was mine to my relations and I do make my said husband William LEIGH my sole executrix of this my last will and Testament in witness thereof I the said Mary LEIGH have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written.

20 March 1738/9 : This will of Mary LEIGH late of Dorchester in the County of Dorset deceased was proved by William LEIGH Doctor of Divinity sole Executor above named to whom administration of all and singular the goods chattles and credits of the said deceased was granted he being first sworn faithfully to administer the same according to Law. Before me John NELSON Sur. [Surrogate]


Genealogical Notes :-

(1). Mary was the wife of Reverend William LEIGH BD DD [1677-1752] Rector of Holy Trinity and St Peters churches in Dorchester from 1707 until his death in 1752. They married at Lytchet Matravers Dorset on 4th March 1727
