The handwriting by the Parish Clerk is very illegible especially the earlier part where spelling is apparently treated as a phonetic perquisite used by the clerk to prevent anyone but himself from deciphering the entries: Vol 2 12 inches by 8: Vol 3 12 inches by 8 ½: Vol 4 15 inches by 9 ½ . NOTES:- 2. Readers are reminded that the year started on 25 March not 1st January until the year 1752. Some records are recorded in the wrong year on the IGI. 3. Was Clerk for 34 years. Died january 18 1848 aged 79 years John BAILEY his son succeeded him 1846 [NOTE:- The word "Clerk" was used in the past to denote Cleric or Priest but in RG Bartelott 's time it more genrally referred to a scribe. To be sure I have checked the Church of England database and the universities and these were not priests as different Rectors were appointed to All Saints parish. I also came across an apprentice record in the National Archives A2A website D/TH 57/63 dated May 1789 which refers to " Samuel BAILEY (son of Samuel All Saints clothworker) to Thomas GRITTON of Holy Trinity".
