| TOWELL | Robert & Ann | Vagrancy Order - Whereas Robert TOWELL and Anne his wife were apprehended by John Morey and Thomas Harris in the Liberty of Forthington in the County of Dorset as vagabonds and being brought before us two of his Majesties Justices of the Peace for this County and our examining them they appear to be vagabonds within the true intent and meaning of the statute in that case made and provided and that the said John Morey and Thomas Harris are entitled to the sum of Ten shillings for such vagabonds so apprehended as aforesaid We do therefore hereby order and direct that the Western Treasurer of this County of Dorset do pay unto the said John Morey and Thomas Harris the sum of twenty shillings within one week after the same shall be demanded as a reward for their apprehending the said Robert TOWELL and Anne his wife as aforesaid given under our hands & seals the eighteenth day of August in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and forty four -- Sydenham WILLIAMS and John MEECH ----- Received The 8th day of September 1744 of Nicholas STICKLAND the western Treasurer of Dorset the sum of Twenty Shillings in face of the above order. we say received by us the signature of John Morey and the mark of Thomas Harris | 18 Aug 1744 | Forthington | Treasurer's Accounts and Vouchers (Western Division) 1743 - 1744 Ancestry.com Image |
