The original registers for this period exist in the Dorset Registry Office & there appear to be some transcription errors between those records and the Bishops Transcripts transcribed here which were done in some cases several years later by the vicar. The originals still need to be transcribed, any additional information added including missing years, and corrections made where appropriate.

Readers are reminded that each year started on 25 th March not the 1st January [ up until 1752] so January and February Christenings for example will appear at the end of the year

[Note: This family's names have been spelt in lots of different ways and these returns are in some cases very difficult to read but aided by the unusual combination of the parents names and using imaging enhancement I believe we have the following events now correctely recorded::- Parish Registers for Fordington show an Alexander CREST [surname recorded as CROSS in the BT's ] married Honor DOWLL in St George's Church on 25 Jan 1736; Their 1st child Honor CREST is Bapt there on 27 Nov 1737 [but wrongly entered in the IGI as Honor CROFT]; their 2nd child is recorded as William son of Electsander & Honer CREECE 1st March 1738; for their 3rd child the Christian name is indistict and should be James but looks like Ellison CREST Bapt 19 Feb 1740; their 4th child is recorded as Mary CRIST Bapt 3rd Mar 1742. We then have a death of a James CREST son of Alexander CREST & Honor his wife on 12 April 1742; Unfortunately there is then a break in the BT registers which are missing from after April 1743 to the end of 1745 inclusive and undoubtedly there would have been more baptisms during this time. Their daughter Mary is buried on 18th October 1747 [Wrongly recorded as a baptism in the IGI] and they rename their 5th child Mary CREST again who is Baptised in Fordington on the 17 Mar 1747/8 . Their 6th child is named James CREST again and Baptised 29 June 1749. By the 16 May 1754 they have moved into the adjacent Parish of All Saints in Dorchester where a Prusella daughter of Elexsander and Honnour CREAS is Baptised.]

NOTE : Unfortunately we do not have Bishops Transcripts for the year 1752 for Fordington but in case the original records survive please also note that this was the year that the English Calendar was changed from the Julian to the more accurate Gregorian system that had been introduced in Catholic countries by Pope Gregory XIII in March 1582. A difference of eleven days had accumulated between the two systems so the change necessitated England 's calendar losing that number of days. To bring this about the day following 2 nd September 1752 was renumbered the 14 th .

The commencement of the year was also brought forward from 25 th March to the preceding 1 st January. This changed January, February and most of March from being the last months of the Old Year to the first of the New.
