Lewis S. Gravely, 90, Dies at Nelson Home

Newark - Lewis S. Gravley, 90, one of the oldest men in Kendall county, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. E. Nelson in Newark at 3 o'clock Sunday, after an illness of a weeks duration. Mr. Gravley had been in failing health the past year, but had been up and around until a week ago.

Lewis Gravely was born in Voss, Norway, April 12, 1849. When 16 years of age, he came to the United States and settled in Morris, then in Big Grove Township, where he lived all the rest of his long life. He was united in marriage to Julia Newtson February 15, 1876, by the late Rev. P. A . Rasmussen, and to this union were born eight children. The youngest son Newt, died January29, 1926. Those surviving him are the widow, Julia, Mrs. A. J. Dierzen, Mrs. Maggie Munson, Mrs. Anna Nelson, Mrs. Letty Anderson, of Newark, Mrs. Sadie Brown of Millington and Mrs. Ellen Hextell of Yorkville, and a son, Severt, of Newark.

Funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. E./ E. Nelson Wednesday afternoon at 1:30, and at 2 o'clock in the Newark Lutheran church. The Rev. L. L. Masted officiated. Burial was in the Millington-Newark cemetery.
