WENTZ

FAMILY OF
ADOLPH WENTZ
his son-
URBAN WENTZ
Home | Back
Urban Wentz appears to be a son of Adolph
Wentz. No document has been located to prove this, but evidence does
suggest he is.
Urban may have arrived in Pennsylvania with his brother, Phillip Wentz, on the
ship, Richard & Mary, in September 1752. Phillip does sign his name
and takes the Oath/Declaration, as he was over 16 years in 1752. Perhaps
Urban did not sign because he was not yet of age (over 16 years).
In 1768, Urban is listed as a baptismal sponsor for Philip Wentz, the son of
Phillip & Anna Maria Wentz. From this record, it does not appear that
Urban is married at this time.

Up until c1795 Urban appears on tax records as having between 140-150 acres of

time of his death and stated that his widow, Magdalena was to reside thereon
until the children were of age and then, she was to receive 1/3 part of his
real and personal estate.

Between the time of the above referenced deed and c1800, the plantation of
William Dietrich's, containing 152+ acres, was divided. This particular

divided "by the Sheriff of the said county and a jury of 12 men" per
the will and last Testament of William Dietrich.

MILITARY:
"Orbin Wence" is listed
on the muster roll as a private in the 2nd Battalion of Associaters that was
organized in 1775 by Col. Reobert McPherson. Part of this battalion
enlisted in the 2nd Regiment of the Flying Camp at Perth Amboy, NJ in
1776. Reportedly, the muster roll of only one company of this battalion
was preserved.
Urban married Maria Magdalena DEITRICH (aka- TETERY), the
widow of William DIETRICH, c1771. Magadalena was born c1741. She
appears to be deceased by May 1805 (at the time of the above listed Indenture
between Urban Wentz and William Wentz). She appears to have had at least 6
children with her first husband, William DIETRICH.
Known children of Urban Wentz and his wife, Magdalena:
1. Catharina WENTZ-
She was baptized in May
1772. Her sponsors were Johannes HUBER (HOOVER) and wife, Anna Maria.
2. Johan Wilhelm "William"
WENTZ-
William was born 18 June
1775. His baptismal sponsors were Adam Winteroth and wife, Anna
Maria. He is deceased by c1871. He was married to Margaret.
He later removed to the area of Rockbridge Co., Va. with his wife and
family. His last known residence was in Marion Co., Ohio.
3. Johannes WENTZ-
Johannes was born 17 November
1777. His baptismal sponsors were Jacob DIETERICH and Catharine
ZIMMERMANMEN, both single. He married Mary ENSMINGER, a daughter of
Philipp, in Rockbridge Co., Va.
Several
generations of Urban's descendants have been uploaded to the WorldConnect
Project.
Urban Wentz appears to be the same man known as Warren Wentz,
whose descendants were researched and compiled by Lemoyne Wentz.
